Summary of the PhD project:
Several studies have found that systematic use of rating scales can improve both treatment of mental disorders and patient satisfaction. Despite this fact, rating scales are not used systematically in the treatment of schizophrenia.
Therefore, the aim of this PhD project was to examine the validity of two brief rating scales, which could potentially be implemented in the treatment of schizophrenia. Specifically, the PhD project examined:
1) The clinical validity of a brief rating scale assessing the severity of core symptoms of schizophrenia among outpatients with schizophrenia (PANSS-6).
2) Whether the inclusion of information from informants (family members, friends or hospital staff) impacts the assessment of the severity of core symptoms of schizophrenia.
3) The structural validity of a brief self-reported rating scale on psychological well-being among patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
